FMP Review
Project outline
The Association of IFCAs has created a project to help facilitate engagement, share best practice, and provide a platform for regionally focused IFCAs to collaborate and inform national Fishery Management Plans. The project focuses on two FMPs, The Crab and Lobster FMP and the Whelk FMP, that between them make up a significant proportion of the inshore fishing economy and have had a history of regional management measures.
Online interviews
Our goal for the online recorded interviews is to give a voice to industry on the IFCAs but also include some Members that can highlight the views of wider stakeholder groups, highlighting the range of views found in IFCA membership.
The interviews follow the same basic format.
- asking each interviewee a bit about their background.
- what is the main problem or issues that needed to be addressed in the fishery.
- what they thought was good about the FMP.
- what they thought could be improved.
- one specific thing they would change
The online recorded interviews were discussed and reviewed by Members as part of their 2 day workshop on the 26 and 27 September and will be sent to DEFRA as part of the AIFCA's response to the FMP consultation
AIFCA surveys
National IFCA Members and Officers survey
The Association of IFCAs has developed a national survey to collate feedback from IFCA members and officers on the management objectives and possible management measures for the Crab and Lobster FMP and the Whelk FMP.
Most of the questions ask you to choose options rather than write long answers and each survey should only take 10-12 minutes to complete.
The information gathered will help inform the AIFCAs national response and your survey will be reviewed at a workshop held in September were IFCA members will summarise feedback and identify priorities.

Workshop information
The workshop was held on 26 - 27 September at the RNLI Training College in Poole on the south coast and pulled together the key themes and observations on the proposed Crab & Lobster and Whelk FMPs. The workshop reviewed the project website and the Members' evidence as well as the detail of the management plans and prioritised and identified key actions.
